Natural wood
Hardwood floors offer many rich looking finishes. However, they require a lot of care and caution.
-
To keep the wood's natural beauty, it is recommended to avoid cleaning with water or using soap, detergent, "oil soap" or any cleaning product intended for other flooring surfaces.
-
To avoid dirt and moisture being tracked into the room, protect the hardwood floor with a rug, especially at entrances. Do not use rubber, plastic or foam backing mats as they will fade the colour of the floor. Instead, put an approved anti-slip cushion under the rug.
-
Immediately sponge up any spill. Clean any dried spill with a cloth or scrub pad dampened with a cleaner recommended by the manufacturer.
-
Slip a blanket or area rug face down under your furniture if you need to move them around. Be extremely cautious. Place felt pads under your furniture legs to protect the floor from scratches.
-
Polyurethane finished hardwood floorings cannot be waxed. To renew their sheen, recoat with a polyurethane finish. Take care to look for a good quality, non-yellowing product.
-
Avoid walking on your hardwood flooring with high heel shoes as they can rapidly dent and damage the surface.
